2000 PSD - Lacks Power??

This is a wierd one.. I have a 2000 PSD 6speed, 4x4 super crew. Its up to about 172K miles and so far all I've done is change the clutch to the LUK upgrade and then had to do the intake hutch modification because the mixing valve came apart in the tank.
Anyway.. it seems like it just doesnt have the power anymore. It kinda shakes at idle and when I pull my 27' travel trailer it actually struggles!!! Another thing I notice is when I start it, it has to rotate about 2X as many times now to start.. I know that has to have something to do with the actual problem.
I read about the back pressure sensor a while back so I did that about 6 months ago,, no change. I change the oil very regularly so thats not it.

One other thing I notice is when I'm going down the road... I almost think I hear hissing like exhaust backpressure. I had my exhaust clog on a crown vic once and damn what a difference that made!! I'm wondering if exhaust could have something to do with this?
I dont hear my turbo at idle at all... I have to get up to about 60 before I even hear it anymore..

I dont know what to think.. Any suggestions? ?

Thanks

If you hear exhaust from anywhere else other than the tail pipe, you have a boost leak.

check up pipes on back of turbo, look for any soot on the pipes . run you rhand over the pipe(while engine is cold of course.) These pipes should be clean and not coat your hand with black soot. also check your manifolds , and your drive housing t on the turbo(what the down pipe connects to) you should not see soot.

You should not hear your turbo at idle, but when you press go pedal you should hear it start to spool faster.

bdrummonds is right. Check your boost tubes and boots first. That is easy. If you cant find anything there, you may want to check the backpressure valve. It is on the output side of the turbo. I don't remember how it actuates but I am sure someone more knowing than myself will ring in.

Speaking of back pressure

When I first got this truck.. when I let it idle for a while, it would ramp up the RPMs at idle and sound like a jet... well, I dont hear this happening anymore... hasnt in quite a long time to think of it. I wonder what is going on with that???

Also, the wierd thing is,, it takes alot more revolutions to start the engine now. I think inectors might be next???

The engine reving and louder sound are part of the warm up cycle. Others could give numbers but basically the air temp and water temp have to be below a certain level to cause the engine to go into that mode. If the air temp has not been cold since you heard that noise, then that is good. If it has, I would bet you have a problem with the air or water temp senders.
Taking more revs to start could be an entirely different problem. When the batteries are having problems the starter can run slower causing it to take longer to start. It can be hard to tell if you don't have another truck nearby to hear the difference.

Man, I sure appreciate all of the comments.. I posted this issue a while back and got nothing! lol..
Anyway, I live in South Texas so its possible that it hasnt been cold enough for that in a while.
The other deal with rotating more times, I have two new batteries in the truck. It rotates as fast as it ever has so I dont know.. I think it's fuel issues. I keep thinking it's injector time but that's not a cheap "gamble"

Its probably not injector time, look here for IPR description and HPOP details
http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/public...OP%20Guide.pdf

look here for explanation of GPR http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/s_gpr.html

In south TX this time of year the EBP valve may not even be needed so thats why you dont hear the up idle and cycling of it.

I read through the high pressure oil pump info and it does sound relative to my issues.. The diagnostics looked lengthy though, isnt there an easier way to determine if this is a bad part?
