Start, run problem 1985 150

When I turn the key to start, dash warnings are on, engine turns and fires, I can give it gas.... but when the key snaps back to run position, engine quits.https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/n...ewthread&f=37# Truck has a new starter, distributor cap, plugs and wires.

sounds like you have a wie issue with a contact, i had one that i couldnt allow the cylinder for the key to turn all the way to run, there was a wire that corroded and when the barrel returns to run the connection is lost.

You can check the voltage on the coil + to make sure, but it sounds like a ignition switch problem, or the resistance wire is burnt out in the ignition switch wiring. The ignition switch is located on top of the steering column, underneath the dash.

I checked coil, that seemed fine. I dropped the steering column, took off the ignition switch and cleaned the contacts.... somewhat grimed up. Other than a little binding of the rod, which I can hit it with some wd-40, the switch now functions as it should. Keep our fingers crossed. Thanks for the replys guys.
