Okay, I am sure this question has been asked many times so I apologize!! Anyway, I have a 74 ford f-100 with a standard 4 speed manual tranny 4 wheel drive with a 390 stock engine 2 barrel carb. I have a long block I am building up (basically stock) and it will be stock except a 4bbl carb, edelbrock intake manifold and new headers. I am not to worried about this engine building as I am taking my time and doing extensive research. However, when it comes to the intake manifod installation I unfortunately have come across contradicting info. My chiltons says I have to remove my valve rocker arm shaft assembly and remove my pushrods. Then remove my intake manifod. okay fine, then it says to put back on manifod ,reinstall my valve rocker arm shaft assembly and pushrods then install new intake manifod, my question is why do I even have to mess with my shaft assembly and push rods? cant I just slap the new intake manifod on? Or am I just reading wrong please help!!!!!
Yes sadly enough..you do have to take off the rocker assemblies. The intake has holes that some of the pushrods go through. So you have to take them off first. No way around it, yes it's annoying. Be sure to keep all the pushrods in order as to where they go..and load the valve train correctly when taking the rocker shaft assembly off and on. If not you could have problems bending rods.
Yep, cast intake tips in at 75 lbs. Some of the pushrods run through the intake, hence the need to remove (or clear) the valve train. If you are in the building process though, it should not be an issue....
