Overactive Brakes??

So as some of you may recall, I installed a brake booster and master cylinder from a 79 4x4 F350 into my 250 4x4 crew cab. A lot has happened since I did that but I finally have all my brake components together including a all brand new rear drum setup.

The oddest thing is happening however. When I step on the brakes fairly slowly, they pedal actually sucks in and applies the brakes, sometimes fairly strongly.. enough to make your front end dive. It's also quite slow to return. You'll notice it at a stop light where it will still be applied after you've let your foot off for maybe 2 or 3 seconds.

Has anyone seen anything like this? I thought maybe the new rear brakes would fix it but apparently nothing has changed.

Thanks!

Push rod adjustment between booster and M/C ?

Boosters can act like that as well.

Have check valve inspected.

I can't remember... is this booster new/rebuilt/experienced ?

It's either new or rebuilt.. hmm, I think it's probably rebuilt. Has about 4 hours on it . Push rod adjustment sounds like it might be the ticket.. how do you do that? Never heard of it. Oh, I'll look it up.

I was just reading about brake boosters work.. it almost seems like the balancing valve thingy that lets air in on application is not right somehow.. letting in too much air for the application.

Yep!! That was it! I had to fiddle with the adjustment a few times. I think it was very close as it was but for whatever reason I had to extend the push rod to apply the brakes sooner on the booster stroke.
