Got the old 73 started today for the first time in years. Changed the trans filter and to my amazement there was virtually no deposits in the pan, no metal or even fiber. The plastic plug was still there. After installling the new filter added 4.5 quarts of oil, didn't drain the converter, the stick shows actually a little over full, but doesn't seem to be picking up oil. I've ran it probably a total of 30 minutes, shifting between r and 1,2 3, then let it idle in neutral, but nothing. Can't even tell any difference whenever I shift, also the oil feels cool, like it hasn't been circulated at all.
Any clues why it won't pick up the oil in the pan? Before I changed the filter, with the rear part of the 2 piece drive shaft off, I put the truck in gear and the shaft turned, now with the shaft on can't feel any attempt to shift or even pull.
