Ive got a 01 F-250 with the 5.4 and want custom exhaust. I cant find a system to do it myself anywhere (at least cheap enough). I can get a single Magnaflow setup with dual SS tips for $400. All custom built. Is that gonna sound good? I have Magnaflow on my Tundra and it rocks. Thats what the guy recommended.
I can also get a Flowmaster setup for $350. I think he said 40 series. Would that sound good?
Im going to a different place tomorrow to see about a Cherry Bomb setup.
I want fairly loud and deep good sound. Thanks for any help in advance.
Sounds like a plan to me. Be advised that the Magnaflow is much quieter than the flowmaster under most conditions. The Flowmasters can be very loud. The chamber design is intended to increase the exterior rumble. The Magnaflow, even tough it is straight through absorbs a lot of sound. My take on it, the Flowmaster is deeper, but louder. The Magnaflow has a great sound overall, and tends to sound nice and can get loud when you open the throttle, but on some setups it is nearly silent at cruising speeds.
My tack on glasspacks, is that they are loud, however from a sheer performance standpoint, I would rather use a resonator. I know the Magnaflow will perform just as well, but lasts much longer. Most glasspacks will rot out in a couple of years, depending on how much road salt. They also break down with age, so if you like the sound when they are new, you will be disappointed with time as they start to get hollow sounding.
Also look into some of the Dynomax mufflers out there. IMO they are another decent alternative over the Magnaflow. Again IMO, the other 2 choices are not worth the time or money and dont sound good or perform like the Magnaflow or Dynomax. Look elsewhere.
On my Tundra, I have the Magnaflow and it sounds great when you get on it but it gets quiet when you are just crusing. I kinda like that. Its really loud when you step on it and going down the highway that loud would get annoying. I dont want to **** everyone within a mile off with it just have a good deep sound. I can hear the Tundra from a ways away when im following my dad and he is driving it. You can hear it when it turns into the neighborhood too. thats good. idk if i want more noise. im pretty sure ill get the Magnaflow in a SISO with 4" SS rolled tips out the side behind the rear tires.
kens64, Would the dynomax sound better or the same? louder or not?
Dynomax, especially the race mufflers will be a lot louder. Overall as long as you keep your cats it shouldnt get too loud though. Sound better? Thats something you and I might not agree on. I personally like how Magnaflows sound the best. Since you have experience with your Tundra, I would copy that system. Look around for something cheaper though. $400 sounds a bit high.
I actually forgot about Borla. Generally Borla mufflers are a little sedate compared to other aftermarket mufflers. I know of several people that have installed them and didnt like how quiet they were. I dont have any experience with the race mufflers though.
Aside from being quiet, they have a good sound to them.

I would steer clear of the cherrybombs. You can tell they are cheap by just looking a the welds. A good product will have nice smooth welds and no splatter. The Cherrybomb mufflers I have seen often have lumpy welds and splatter. They often make them out of low quality steel and they tend to rust out. I am probably over-generalizing here, since I don't deal with them personally, but from what I have seen on display, they were quite poor quality. This is a shame for what is supposed to be a brand name.
Now if you are reffering to the glasspacks, they are Cherrybomb's premier product. They are not neccesarily better than other brands, but they are the classic. Still I would aim for a non-louvered resonator instead of a glasspack. But thats just my opinion. I have no real experience with glasspacks on my own vehicles, only with replacing them on other peoples vehicles.

I personnally still like my magna Flow systems on all my vehicles
f250,expedition,escape, would be a waste on my escort wagon.
well, im not doing this myself. i need something that my local muffler shop can get. he normally does flows and magnas but gets the stuff from a warehouse so ill have to ask about all these others. i like the magnas so far. pretty sure im gonna do that.

not all Magnaflow are straight thru... i found a Magnaflow muffler for cheap thinking i was getting the straight-thru design i wanted, but turns out its a chamber muffler like a flowmaster; XL series i believe.
