F150 going wide

I stopped in to take a look at new Explorers tonight.
There are a couple of slightly used 4x4 units that are available - I am pretty sure they are mainland units set here for resale- both at the 10,000 mile range (07 models) and around the 30,000 dollar price point - both have 4.0s.
I plan to take a look on Sunday at these trucks and take a look at this dealer's bigger lot for any new Explorers they may have on hand.

While there I saw the 08 brochures and picked up the Explorer and F150 ones.

I noticed that the F150 line is getting wider - the most notable would be the XL Supercrew and the new bed box for Reg/Supercab models.

I have never seen so much options and models out there for the F150. Is this because Ford is finally doing some research? Or trying to come from behind to be the best again? Or trying to continue to be the best.
I have had an F series truck from every decade 70s the 70s (77,88,97,02)
and have enjoyed them all. Although my next truck will be another Explorer, I hope the engineers at Ford continue to produce trucks that are second to none.
