My cross bed toolbox was robbed today to the tune of about $600 worth of tools so I'm looking for a way to hook my alarm up to the toolbox. I have mercury switch on the lid of the box from my old truck but I don't know if I can wire it into the Ford factory security system. Have any of you guys done this before?
If you have a hood switch for that alarm, you can order another one for the tool box and wire it side by side into the factory wire(the one already spliced for the hood).
I didn't know the alarm had a hood switch option. I have the factory service manual so I'll need to look at the diagram and see if it's included. Great idea.
Oh crap, haha. I was thinking of the Ford aftermarket Remote Starters we install at the dealership. They have hood switchs. Look into any triggers that the alarm system has, and try to incorporate that into your tool box. One possible way would be to make a door latch of sorts(door ajar switch). Wire it into the alarm system to provide constant 12 volts to the tool box you have. If the wire is snipped, the module losses it's 12v reference it's sending out(kind of like opening the door and the alarm going off)?? I know what I'm thinking of, but don't have a wiring diagram in front of me to look at the specifics. I know if you ground the harness at each door, the "door ajar" light goes out, so if you set up a similar wiring for that box of yours it should activate the alarm when the wires are cut to steal the box (A.K.A the door is opened).
