V10's?

I'm considering picking up an F250 with a V10....just looking for input. How are they when it comes to high miles, any specifics I should pay attention to, etc...?

Thanks,

-Will

The V10 is a good motor. Its basically a 5.4L with 2 more cylinders. I know several people with F-250s that have V10s in them that have well over 100,000 miles of them and they have all been absolutely bulletproof.
BTW, why did you post this in the '97-'03 F-150 section?

No problem. I had to double check at first to make sure that I didnt click on the Super Duty section.
Another area of concern on those trucks is the ball joints. From what I understand they go through them fairly quickly, something like every 75,000 miles.

Thats the only issue i ever had with mine! That and they like any other ford modular likes to work the plugs loose/blow them out. I know of several that are in the 300,000 mile range with original drivetrain. I had hoped mine would last, but po's negligence to maintenance caused an untimely demise. I wouldn't hesitate buying one again. They don't get super gas mileage, but comparable to any other V8 in any size truck. Mine usually got similar gas mileage whether she was empty or pulling a tandem trailer with a 4500lb derby car on it. They'll pull anything you hook it too! Don't let the diesel guys rain on your parade! The V10 should last as long as a diesel with proper maintenance. I would have the dealer replace the ball joints and check the front hubs too if its a earlier 4x. Good Luck!

There is another thread titled something like "What kind of life are you guys getting on your V10's?". The thread is really very interesting from a human nature point of view. I.e., many people initially come to these forums specifically because they are having some kind of problem, or think they may be and want confirmation of what "normal" is, such as with gas mileage. The result is that many threads can concern problems. But the "life" thread just goes on and on with inputs from many perfectly happy V10 owners, some with very extensive longevity.
