ok well i just went muddin (more like splashin through some puddles) and when i got home i popped the hood and heard a tickin. so i looked around and i noticed the number 4 spark plug movin around and that was where the tickin was comin from. i put my hand on the wire and could feel like the cylinder is tapping against the spark plug. so what should i do first. 93 f-150 auto.
The sparkplug has come loose. Compression from the motor is causing it to rock and the tick your hearing is gas escaping past the threads at extreme pressure.
All you need to do is tighten it up. However it isn't a bad idea to pull it out and examine it for good measure.
i hope ur right, i thought it was loose but wanted to prepare for the worst and be fully prepared. ill go tighten it down tomorrow after i pull it unless it seems bad. thanx
ok well parts 2. went to start my truck, started fine. went to pull out and it studdered when i gave it gas. then it went away. i drove some more and then it stalled. i restarted it fine and then it studdered more. im thinkin dist/plugs are wet or the fuel filter is bad. i checked the bad plug and it was fine n dry. also when i put it in park it'll rev up but kinda studder.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Nov-02 AT 06:53 PM (EST)]We went thru the run down... (well he did, i just sat back on my computer and did some math homework )
it has spark. (i think it would be a good idea to change the spark that was loose though. It may have fouled because it was lose and got uncompressed gas all over it)
obviously getting enough gas to start
We both think its gotta be the EGR, cuz its starting cold fine, then when it warms up it sorta farts out. Must be getting heated air?
He's takin her down to get the codes read tomorrow.
Any ideas guys?
I'm stumped. Probably because its a 300 and stopped working right. This is odd. :-)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Nov-02 AT 10:44 PM (EST)]You posted that you had been puddle jumping/ could something have gotten wet??
I'll bet its a wet ign. syst.
checked the following:
plugs
wires
dist.
vacum lines
havent gotten to check anything else but what i did was fine, dry and good. like i said im thinkin EGR and rhethor seconds that. im going to get the codes read 2morrow. anything i can do if its not?
Those little plastic vacuum line are always breaking off. I'd check and trace as many of them as you can.
Is it possible you crossed two plug wires? Run the firing order just to be sure.
When two plug wires are placed right next to each other the current flowing through one can induce current in the other. Stir your wires around if they're next to each other.
Most parts store sell cans of wire dryer. If nothing else blast everything with it.
Wires with poor insulation can discharge partially through the insulation when provided with a little moisture. The worse they are the less moisture required. Usually this will show up as corona glow when you look at a running engine in the very dark night.
