Here's a related question. What if the tags are missing? Are there other options for finding that tag info besides looking inside the rear or front ends? Thanks

If the tag is missing, or you want to know for sure that everything is khosher, do the following.

Lift the rear axle. Chock one tire. Spin the driveshaft 10 times. Have a helper count how many times the tire spins. The answer is what gear ratio you have, 3 and a half times is 3.50, four and 1 tenth times, 4.10 gears etc etc. If with the wheel chocked, you cannot turn the driveshaft, unchock it because it has a limited slip or a locker. To tell the difference between the two, you need to spin one tire. A limited slip will make the other tire turn the same direction and same speed, the locker will allow the opposing tire to turn separate (unless it locked up.)

It probably is a 1975.

That date was the actual casting date of the part.

75's were started being built in August/september 1974.

Parts were usually used/installed in vehicles with 3 months of casting date.
