I recently purchased a SCT X-Cal 2 and flashed my PCM with the 87 Tow Program and noticed an odd situation. If I take off from a stop under normal acceleration my truck instantly down shifts from second gear to first gear. If I take off from a stop very slowly it will stay in second gear until shifting up into third gear. It also does this in the 87 Performance Program.
When reflashed back to stock it always sharts off in first gear like normal. I have a stock 2004 F250 SC 4x4 5.4, 4-speed trans.
For those of you using the X-Cal 2 is this normal? It doesn't seem normal to me and would like some advice.
I have the exact truck you have except mine is a 6.8l. Have the SF 9415B tuner.
I left the stock tune in and just adjusted the paremeters to my liking. There isn't much of an improvement in performance tuning on 87 octane. Premium gas is a different story.
Your tranny issues doesn't sound normal to me. I would contact SCT or an SCT dealer for further info. In the meantime I'd probably put your truck back to stock until you hear back from them.
