I was at the atm to pull out money for rear brake shoes this mornin',- I was holding down the brake pedal a little harder to reach into my back pocket, and SPLOOOSH, the brake pedal dropped to the floor, i'm like-"Oh oh"
pulled away and no brake, crawled underneath the dripping mess shakin my head..I made it the 2 miles back home and parked it -and I cant see it in the frame rail-yet-.. Im letting it cool down.- I notice that the Fluid is brown..Does this mean my lines are rotting out?-kind of a rusty color fluid.
This is the line that runs down the rail to the rears-the long one.
Do I have to stick with the Pre-bent replacement, Or can I just use a long straight line from Autozone..?? I gotta get this thing done,- **Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
Lines are probably rusting. You can get a long straight line from Autozone and a tubing bender.
The brake fluid is brown due to contamination from dirt, dust, water, rust, etc. I always flush my brake lines every year or so in my vehicles to keep the fluid clean and keep moisture out of the system. That and it makes the brakes feel that much better.
You can use a straight line from Autzone but you are going to have to bend it yourself. Make sure to replace the whole brake line that is bad, it is hard and not very good to splice them together. Plus, if one rusted and blew the rest of that line is weak too. While you are underneath check the rest of your brake lines too. Mine are rusted but aren't too bad, am saving up for some pre-bent stainless steel ones. They cost some money but hey I like stainless.
To shorten the line put a bunch of curls in it or z s and then obviously bend it close to how the stock line is. The autozone should have a bender but haven't been in an autozone for 3yrs now, so can't remember.

The replacement lines at the store (advance), the guy said, wasn't (stainless). I don't believe him very much though. LOL I thought I read somewhere that they were all stainless too, but I would think it would take longer than 14yrs to rust out? Anyhoo got to run.
