Loudness

I have a 98 f-150 lariat with 3 chamber flowmaster turn downs, and it isnt quite loud enough.
I was wanting to take my pipes off right at the header too make it louder, but my friend said that they were too short and that the air coming into them would runi my valves? Anyone know of anyway to make it louder?

That would mean taking the Catalytic conerters off. Which will disconect the O2 sensor sending the pickup into "limp mode" and it will hardly run. Bad idea
