I have an engine oil leak that is in the front passenger side of the engine compartment, just behind the radiator. It appears to be coming from one of the flexible lines just above the frame rail. Is there an external engine cooler near this locations? This is on a 2000 Excursion with the 7.3 diesel.
It sure looks like engine oil instead of transmission fluid. It has black carbon in it like the engine oil. If I check the transmission dipstick, the oil is the normal pink color.
I can't find any oil leaks on the front of the engine that could be blowing on that location. The fan wash seems to be blowing it around a little bit, but there's fresh oil drips on the two flexible lines and also on the exterior of the air intake just above them.
I Would Smell It & See If It Smell Like Fuel! Seen Alot Of Fuel Leaks From Filter Drain Valve Beeing Mistaken As Oil Leak. O-rings Go Bad Where Valve Meets Filter Housing, Cheep Fix Maybe. Just A Thought
Well, pull the cap off the power steering pump reservoir, and look inside, stick your finger in there while it's off and see what color it is. That also takes ATF, but if it's old and not changed, it can turn brown, or even black. However, the fuel leak might me a possibility too.
