2008 Expy- "PHONE" button.

My dad just bought an '08 expy limited. Let me just say it is one sweet ride. It has just about every option, including the deployable running boards, except rear backup camera. In the Nav unit there is a button that says PHONE. When you press it, it does nothing. I was wondering if anyone knows about this. I thought maybe it had sync installed but it is not on the options list. Do you think it is setup for sync? maybe he could add it?

thanks

Matt

According to everything I have been able to find, that button is only active if you have Mobile-Ease or another bluetooth hands free kit installed that has a wire that connects into the system for mute functionality. On my 08 it does nada right now. The dealer actually had to send an email to a ford engineer to get the information for me as it made no sense why there was a button that didn't do anything.

You are correct, my 08 has Mobile-Ease installed and when in use the phone mutes the radio, it’s all automatic, meaning pushing the radio button does nothing, but gets used automatically by the Mobile-Ease when in use<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

This is exactly why I would like to see Ford offer "Sync" on the Expedition sooner rather than later. I haven't been able to get a straight answer from any dealer on when it will be available.

Mystery Button

So essentially, even with mobile-ease the button does nothing? Will we ever discover a function for this mystery button?

I wonder if the Sync will be able to retrofit into the 08 Expys? I've seen speculation, but no definite word even on availability in the 09s. A retrofit kit wouldn't seem to be too far fetched as the nav unit in the Sync pictures I've seen is the same as the one in my 08 at face value. We already have the microphone wired in, as well. The only thing missing is the USB jack.

I was told by the sales guy that SYNC would be a retro fit item but you HAD to have an 2008. I do not know what to believe as I felt we should have gotten it and not the Fusion or at least both should have had it.Bad call on Fords part.

Sync Retrofit

Was it a Ford employee or a dealer employee that told you about the retrofit option? Basically, how reliablke do you think this information is?

I'm debating on buying a parrot handsfree kit, but if I can get Sync later then I am willing to wait.

I don't trust the sales guy and he worked for the dealer not a Ford sales guys. I think it is a tease.

You keep saying it does nothing. It doesn't mute your radio or whatever is playing?

These buttons have been on Ford's radios for a while now, and they have all muted the sound.
