first the background info , is an 84 f150 4wheel drive with 300 six
i had bad exhaust leak due to warped manifold . picked up used manifolds this morning and replaced both intake and exhaust as one unit . replacement was obviously from different year as my exhaust doesnt quite reach and there is no port for what i believe is an O2 sensor in pipe on bottom of manifold .
now truck will not crank . will turn over and crank if sprayed with starting fluid (running very rough)but wont even attempt to idle once i let off accelerator . loosened gas line to confirm do have gas . do suspect vacuum advance may not be any good but didnt think it would keep from cranking . any way to eliminate said sensor ? tried unplugging it but didnt make a difference . any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily driver and im down at moment
Nope just get a bung drill a hole in the stock location or close to it but in a easier accesible spot and weld it in!! You could try an O2 sensor eliminator but you will get
crappy mileage unless you constantly fiddle with it.
was wondering about vacuum leak myself after reading over a few older posts . am gonna start there after taking girlfriend to work but any other suggestions of what i need to look for people ? thanks for everyones help so far
Vacuum Leak - Did you use a new gasket for the replacement - are all the bolts tight and did you tighten them in sequence? If not, check a Chiltons for the bolt sequence.
Before you do anything, do a compression check... The same thing happened to me, truck was running rough and wouldnt idle no matter what I did. I went through and replaced everything (carb, ignition, bla bla bla).... Then someone from this site told me to check the compression.... low and behold 9, 9, 7, 10, 10, 10....
oscar you and ube were dead on it . did tighten to spec and in sequence but i guess manifold wasnt quite true as went back to what had changed . had major air coming in on manifold .had to really torque bolts down to clear up air leak . still have slight pull in center but dont want to strip out bolt holes . shes idling now but have got to get exhaust right before driving . planning on checking timing tomorrow hopefully
thanks for help guys !
