My 79 F250, has developed a knock in the rear end. When turning left only, and only once. Feels like there is a small bind, then a small dull shutter through the truck, it just started. I had a problem once when the roll pin that holds the spider gears pin walked out and at random times the big pin would walk and bang around, it was bandaged and prayers were said. I wonder something is finally giving up? It is my daily driver and I am trying to find the time.
Am I correct in saying that I have a Dana 60 4:10's? I pull a 24' enclosed car trailer with the truck and if I have to change or replace anything I'd like to put in the best combination I can. Any ideas. Anyone in New England tripping over one in case I have to replace anything?

Thanks Chris
It is a Dana 60, but other ratios were available besides 4.10's. If the rear axle is original, look on the Warranty Plate for the AXLE code. Then you can use FTE's axle decoder, or post the code here.
That sounds like the same problem that I just went through with my 2006 E-350. The vehicle would kinda chug-vibrate when turning at low speeds and had a faint clunking sound from the rear end. It ended up being a clearance problem with the spider gears. You probably have a spider gear starting to fail.
