driveshaft

Dopey me! I took the slip yoke off my driveshaft (56 f100 1/2 ton) to clean it up and didn't pay attention to how it was positioned. Should it be parallel to the yoke on the other end, or should it be at a 90 degree angle to the yoke on the other end?

Wink

Do you mean, that you cut the weld and removed the whole end of the slip yoke end? If so, the "eye" should be in a PERFECT straight line to the one in the other end. The fixed eye part is the part I'm talkin about I'm not good at posting pics or anything, but let me try this: o=============o ? Does that help? The o's represent the fixed eyes in the yokes. I hope this helps, I cant do much more than that right now. Maybe someone who is good at postin pics can help.

The 1956 service manual (fig 64) calls it a universal joint knuckle ... and it's removed by unscrewing a cap and removing a seal and washer. If you look at a typical driveshaft that doesn't have a removable end, the ends are parallel. But the diagram in the manual shows the ends at 90 degrees to each other ... but I'm not sure if that's just to clearly show the parts or if it's supposed to mount that way.

I'm not sure about an original one? I've never had one that complete. All my stuff is custom. Maybe someone with an original truck, like Brian B will chime in here? Sorry for not knowing.

Have a good day
