I need to find performance parts for my 86 Inline six. Anything to get more horses and torque. I also need a non rusted cab and anything else for the body. I heard about a kit from autofab that converts my 86 body to a 96 body. Is this true and where can i find it. Thanks for the help.
performance wise, try efi exhaust manifolds, a decent cam from cran or the like, offy 4barrel intake, a good 4barrel carb, and an msd6a ignition. should give you a good bump.
as far as that cab goes, there is somewhere selling new 92+ cabs, and they will fit on that truck without a problem, however the body lines will jot match up, so unless you like having two different bodies, thats not the route for you.
The only difference in the body lines from '80-97 is the break over the wheelwells. The later trucks' line didn't go up - just straight across with a small extra lip at the top of the arch. Everything else will match. If you swap to a '92-97 front clip, it'll be a LOT easier if you swap to a '92-97 cab (for the wiring harness) and a little easier if you swap to a '91-97 frame (so the bumper will bolt on).
If you want to go the cheapest route, just get a '92-97 front clip and an old cab - you don't really need a kit. The only thing that won't line up perfectly will be the bottom bolt on the fenders, just forward of the door. Make sure you get ALL the sheet metal ahead of the firewall including the core support and the wiper valance.
