replacing front hub and axle
Hey guys, I read here quite a lot and you give better info here than I can get from anyone/anywhere else. I have a couple of questions. I just discovered that I have a bad needle bearing in the driver side front axle (4wd, diesel, f250 SD, rear abs, build date 9/98, automatic trans). The just seized up and now the outer drive has to be replaced also.
All the parts stores tell me I have to buy the hub ( $230-$424)instead of just the bearing (which should cost about $20). And the axle assembly ($450-$700) instead of just the outer axle shaft ($guessing $150) Can anyone tell me where I can buy the parts I need to repair rather than the kits that I don't think I need?
Also I read somewhere on here that you can lube the axle bearing by addiing lube through the vacuum opening.
Thanks very much for any help. Especially if you know ford or other part numbers. I know I will need a bunch of gaskets/seals etc also.
