shouldn't have to take apart the dash at all. go to auto parts place and get the right tool - it's just a couple bucks. its a little u-shaped metal place that you shove in the factory holes and pull it out

You do not take the dash apart.
Go to Wal-Mart and buy a set of ford radio removal tools, put them in the four holes and pull it out.

Is the wiring harness necessary or can I just splice the new one in?

yea, like i said above, buy a wiring harness. they're just a few bucks and made to do exactly that. each one is clearly labeled where it needs to go.

got mine from autozone. i'm sure any place like that has them. just a plug that plugs into the stock stereo plug with wires hanging out the other side to attach to your stereo.

Don't splice the wires onto the oem wiring. Just get the adapter harness for a few bucks and splice it onto the new radio wiring.

Do yourself a favor a get a adapter harness, they're only 4 or 5 bucks, any place that sells car audio stuff should have them.

The wires on the adapter and the cd harness will be the same colors, I just striped the wires and twisted them together, and then covered them with electric tape.

The cd player will fit perfectly in the factory radio hole, you may need to force it alittle to get it all the way in there.
