Is it safe to travel with gas in a legal container underneath a closed fiberglass bed cover? Is there any ventilation even though the cover seals out rain? Anybody added some kind of venting to a bed cover...?
Snugtop offically says "they dont recommend" doing it.
I am assuming you are refering to gasoline, not propane or another type of bottled gas.
In NJ there is a limit to the amount carried before you must put warning signs on the vehicle and that amount is WELL over ten gallons. I believe it's somewhere around 55 gallons.
It would surely be prudent to make sure the container is secure, well sealed and the bed is ventilated.
Looking to mount one of these on a platform I can remove for daily driving. Ill use tie downs or some kind of mounts just in case (God forbid) of a rollover.
I need to figure out a way to let some extra air under the cover and this really shouldnt be anything to worry about I would think.
Use a metal fire can safety rated for road use (DOT approved) and fire marshall approved. They run about $35 for 5 gallons. They come with a bunch of small things that count such as anti-flashback.
