i went to pick up a tow dollie the other day and the guy told me i had no brake lights. so i tryed my turn signals. they dont work either. but the wierd thing is ive got running lights! so i thought it was a bad connection on the harness. wrong ive traced the wires to under the hood and still no good. im now at the point where i think its a fuse but ive checked most of what i thought it would be. any ideas fellas?
Keep it simple, try a different trailer. Do you tow often? Have you had problems in the past? I see the quad in the avitar...that usually means a regular tow is normal for you.
What kind of truck is it? The last time I had trailer light problems it was a fuse under the hood. The nice thing about the towing package wiring on that truck (1994 7.3 F350 Powerstrike) was that the trailer wiring was fused separately from the truck lights.
I am having the same problem. I do have running lights. No brake/turn signals.
Checked three different trailers, Checked all the fuses that should logically apply, checked for broken wiring. No power coming from truck using meter.
HELP!!!!

welcome oleman glad i could help bud! ...haha yeah well i bought a boat and thats the last thing i towed that had working lights. keep in mind the boat is a 78 with iffy trailer wiring so im thinkin thats what burned it up. Where are these relays located. like i said ive checked the obvious stuff. grounds are good everywhere. ive got running lights on the trailer just no brakes or turn signals but the stuff on the truck works all correctly. im goin to look for relays now. oleman, start your own topic to report back bud thanks!
yup. turned out its the #6 fuse in the dash. 20 amper thought i had checked that one but unfortunatly i checked the #4 right above it..stupid ford why cant they use a neon orange fuse for hte trailer brake and turn signals!? lol
It's always a good idea to check all fuses with a tester when you are having electrical problems. Ford doesn't do the greatest job of labelling all of the items that are run off of each fuse in the manual, and sometimes a blown fuse can still look good. My power windows, and radio quit working in my truck. I checked all the fuses that were labeled for them and didn't find any blown. My cousin went through the electrical schematic and found a different fuse that they also recieved power from. In the Ford manual it was labeled as being for the instrument panel (my instrument panel was working fine).
