Just a quick question. My manual says not to adjust the timing because the computer does all that. 92 300 EFI. There has to be some way. I can't belive the timing can't be adjusted! Also, I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor and now the speed has increased. The truck would jump in one place on the sensor as I gave it the gas. New sensor fixed that but the speed went up. Tried to adjust the sensor around and made some small adjustment to the engine speed but still won't come down where rpm's used to be. Any ideas?
The ignition timing can be adjusted. You can use a timing light and set your base timing. I think it is 10 degrees BTDC. You have to remove the spout connector before you do this.
You adjust it just like the non EFI 300, just loosten the distributor and turn it. There is a connector in the wiring near the module that must be pulled out to prevent the EEC from changing timing while you adjust the distributor. If the timing has never been adjusted before the connector will be wrapped up in black tape. The module is either on the side of the distributor or under the hood hinge on the inner fender on the driver's side, I can't remember which for a 92.
