I have added a pic in my gallery. Under the title "What are they ?". If they are side marker lights I want some. They look to be OEM.
Where are the side marker lights? I don't see any.
That's a nice Custom Cab you have there, the deluxe extra cost dash cluster is a rare plus. One thing I did notice is, those are the original CA black plates issued to your truck in 1965 and are only a few numbers from what mine are on my 1965.
For those that are unaware, CA cars and trucks from 1963 thru 1969 used the black plates, and the plates are highly desirable today on the original vehicles, not just in CA, but world-wide. Even though first issued in 1963, they're still valid today. But if the 1963/69 vehicles don't have the black plates, (as they were replaced by later issued plates due to loss, etc) they can't be added.

They look like front end corner show-er thingy-majigabobs! We used to weld re-bar onto the ends of our wreckers bumpers in the Marine Corps so you would know where they were when you were manuvering around trees and such, corner locaters, just so's ya know where they are so you don't bend anything. One of the old hay-trucks, we had back home had those on it, kinda handy.
By the way Bill, both my 63 and my 66 have the original CA Black Plates!! and so does my *****'s, had one guy in the parking lot of the car show here ask me where I bought them, told him they were the original plates for the truck and his mouth dropped, I guess a lot of them got replaced when the trucks/cars weren't registered for years. My 77 also has its original CA Blue Plate.
Got my black plates as well, made me so happy when I pulled up to the guys place in Nevada and saw those on it LOL...
Question: as to registering the vehicle as a Classic?(one time forever) thing... do you have to change the plates for this ?
Thread gone array lol
I've never seen those type of markers; look as you stated OEM option's. There located on his lower left photo with the two tone hood pic in Rusbkt gallery.
Hopefully someone has access to them for you.
Again sharp Slick, like the flat bed layout.

Ah, yes they can be added although it is a process. For 7 years, since they started yearly smog tests on older cars in the late '80s, my Cougar went on non-op status. When they finally introduced the law exempting cars over 25 years old I went down to re-register the Cougar. It had been dropped from the system That meant I had to put new plates on that started 2TSCxxx and I wasn't happy. Some years later I came across something about Year of Make plates for California cars. I went down to the DMV and wanted to use that for the Cougar. They said I needed the appropriate plate for that year car which is 1968. Either using a W or V depending on north or south. Had to be a pair of plates and not still on title for another car. Bingo, here are my original black plates. No problem they took back the new plates and I put the old ones back on.
Now the Mustang has blue plates from 1970. I took several years to find a good pair of black plates, starting with a W, for the car. When I go in to renew my drivers license I am also bringing my YOM application to switch the blue plates for the black ones.
Look pretty OEM to me, no idea what the hell they are though LOL maybe some sort of signal mounted on the side due to alot of freeway travel. Like the new mirrors with signals in them for folks in ytour blind spot. So they are well aware you moving over anyhow so get the *^&% OVER ALREADY!!
Sure hit the JY or look around locally for one that hasnt been on the road for years and offer to buy the plates. Out of the system and local means OK to use from what that earlier post states..
Sorry Bob, they aren't OK to use. Good luck, Mike.
No black plates on your 60's vehicles? THEY CANNOT BE ADDED! CA DMV sez only 1962 and earlier vehicles can use old plates. Call the CA DMV's 800 number-and ask-they'll tell you NO.
When car/trucks go into JY's the current plates, regardless of when they were first issued are removed-it's the law. 1956/62 CA plates are orange with black letters. I have several sets of new, original unissued black plates, and I guarantee you that if I could use them on my 1963 Studebaker R2 Super Hawk, or 1963 Galaxie 500XL...on they would go. This Galaxie (I have 2, the other has BP's) came from the same dealer my 1965 F100 came from: Stockton Quincy Ford in Westwood Village. It now has the newer reflective plates...yuck!
Black plates can be traced to the area they were issued. The letters are the key. The plates can also be dated as to when first issued. For example, all A-B-C plates were issued in NorCal, and with a little digging, the actual DMV office can be found. FACT: Plates that begin with JL and SQ were issued at the Culver City DMV. IM plates were from Santa Monica. I removed the orange plates on several cars in 1963 and replaced them with black plates = my 1950 Olds plates were IMH 077. 1947 Ford Woodie was IME 730.

Bill, I have read the rule regarding YOM plates as stated by Sacramento. The blessing is that most local offices, and precious few employees, even know about YOM plates. That means, depending on the office you go to, that you can get your plates registered. That is exactly what I did with the Cougar. The employee asked me about YOM plates and I told them yet didn't say anything about prior to 1962. Took the person awhile to find the proper form but I walked out with a temporary and was able to put my black plates legally on a few weeks later. There are 3 DMV offices within 10 miles of me up here. So we'll see if I can work magic again.
Knowing the DMV if they ever see that they screwed up and let you put them on a post 62 they will be asses and insist it's corrected...be careful. If having any issues with the new attempt I wouldnt bring up the previous luck streak...
