Had a 2004 f150 fx4 for about 11 months. Now have a cream puff 1997 f150 4x2. I need to have the 60,000 mile service done (75k miles on the truck), and wonder if I should have an independant mechanic do the "necessary maintenance" or take to the dealer.
Welcome to FTE rallyfan.
Can you handle a few hand tools. You should learn how to do the basics yourself. Find I friend that works on their own car/truck to walk you through the basics.
If you are not comfortable with this, talk to people around you about a local shop that has a good reputation and take it there. Maybe start off with a small job and evalutate how they handled it. If you are satisfied you can continue doing business with them. A dealer may have higher labor rates than a local shop.
see you in the posts.
I'm pretty handy, atleast change my own oil, spark plugs on a vw jetta anyways. Just have to start getting dirty, changing coolant, and trans fluid, etc....
If you get stuck with any of the projects/procedures just log on here and there will ALWAYS be someone around to help. Some guys maybe able to mummble something to you in their sleep.
