i replaced the alt on my 89, with 190k on the od, it was replaced once before due to what was probably battery problems. this time the batt light came on, the gage read low voltage, and voltmeter also read low. i took the alt to the parts store, got a rep, installed, turned on eng, got the light and low volts. i went through the steps in haynes, nothing doing. finally i happened to look in the power distribution fuse box right by the alt. found both alt fuses burnt. i guess the volt reg went high and protected the rest of the electrical.
my point is, nowhere did i find anything written or posted about checking the fuses, just my good luck.
should this be added to the tech archives since i looked there before i began the job just like i do before i tackle any job on the bII?
