so i was bored the other day and decided to get under the truck and cut the muffler off about where the bed meets the cab. it has a slightly ruff idle for like 20 seconds when it first starts up and sounds pretty good. def. like a tractor. overall, its not too loud tho... i plan on replacing the cats and going with a single and then adding on a "purple hornie" or "red hot" glass pack style muffler... with some tips out the side in front of the rear tire...
with the glass pack style, it wont get any louder, will it? will it change at all?
I did the same thing last fall to my 89. Cut it off right under the cab with a hacksaw. It wasn't loud at idle, but accelerating it sounded alright. I had a glasspack on mine for a while too, but it sounded real ricey, so I put on a flowmaster 40. I think it sounds pretty good now.
http://www.cherrybomb.com/sitemap.html Check out the extreme to make duals if
you wanted to and not get the droning and be loud as heck. I have the glass packs they are loud when you punch it but when cruising it is deep and mellow, I have a 2" and a 21/8 or 21/4 inch I can't remember now and of course one pipe is longer than the other from the left crossing to the right side. If you plan on running dual exhaust you
should either make one longer or different diameter to combat the droning you can get at certain speeds!! Get that extreme and make duals it would be cheaper then manifolds and it would kind of look like your cat con if some one just looked at it real
quick, if you plan on leaving the cat. con. off!!
not looking to run duals... just a single out the passenger side before the rear tire... i kinda like the way it sounds now... i just need a muffler for inspection...
