Question for you guys. Does any of you know if I can change the color of a fiberglass shower insert or where I may be able to find out? I'm in the process of repainting my bathroom and it has a gold shower insert. It looks terrible. I'm looking at $750-1000 for a new one and just don't have the extra $$$ to spare. Any suggestions? Thanx!
Done well, an epoxy coating on your tub/shower/surround might get you 3-5 years. Done poorly and it can be peeling in weeks to a year. Pros typically charge 300-500, depending on size and other factors, and your location.
Pete, I was just gonna say that! You beat me to it! Of course I could say that us weirdos here in CA shower blindfolded all the time, but, instead I will offer a probably unlikely solution. Many times the color of something will change under different lighting. If you rig up some colored lights in there, you might make it look different. I'm not trying to be funny.

I agree, I have replaced many tubs and showers that got the quick fix approach. There is no easy fix to your situation. What exactly are you refering to as a gold shower insert?
Is this the whole shower stall?
If so, Sterling/Owens Corning makes shower stalls in the 350.00 range - they are 4 piece and are easy to install.
Not really, the fiberglass sheet in a shower is different then the fiberglass found in a car, just like the fiberglass in a boat is different then a car.
If you sanded the gelcoat off all you would have left is a paper thin mess. Then painting it and sealing it, that just wouldn't float in a shower.
They sell plastic liners you can pop in, usually under $200. Cheaper at Home Depot, the site is down, here is what I mean at Lowes
Plan on spending $15 on three tubes of clear silicon RTV. Usually pretty wavy and you will never mistake it for tile. Good for rental houses where people do not clean their walls.
We had a shower refinished and it turned out great. Took a couple of hours and you don't want to be near it during the process. Check your local Yellow Pages.
