Dipstick problems
I am swapping engine longblocks in a '81 250. Will a block with the dipstick hole cast in the block replace a block that has the dipstick in oil plan without any problems other than plugging dipstick hole in block? Can the dipstick hole be plugged in the block? How? Thanks, Dog.......... whoof

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Dec-02 AT 05:52 PM (EST)]Yes, you should be able to block it with a little metal freeze plug, an expanding rubber plug (like a little piece of vacuum hose with a bolt & nut thru it), the broken-off end of the original block tube folded over & crimped flat, or by stuffing steel wool into it & then pouring JB Weld (preferrably JB Quick) on top. There's not any pressure inside the oil pan - you're mainly trying to keep stuff OUT.
