Did FoMoCo ever produce a truck to complete with the stylings of the Chevrolet Cameo? If so what was it? If not so, I was doing some thinking and maybe a 57-62 with the grille rear quarters and chrome trim from a crown vic or Fairlane.
If'n I could photo chop I'd post a pic. Could anyone help me out here.
I know it would be alot of work but I think it would look sweet.
In light of recent discussions on the board, I think it would leave out the SBC and go with a BBC...Just kidding ....It would have to have a ford engine for sure.
I didn't think Ford had too when it introduced the styleside box on the trucks in 1957. The Cameo was just a fleetside box with a big trim on the side and just turned into a regular all steel box without the trim on the later trucks.
There was a thread on this not too long back, I think it was Jag Red asking about it trying to find a way to morph 56 Ford car sides to a 56 truck. There was talk about the Australian Utes as well. I had started playing with photoshop trying to piece it all together but then got busy at work and never got around to finishing it (my photoshop skills are lacking)
Chevy started the Cameo's in 1955. The Cameo bed is basically the regular step side box with special fiberglass sides. I think in 1958 the Cehvy wide bed trucks had steel sides. I think the fiberglass Cameo beds were jut from 55 to 57.
On a similar note, Dodge, starting in 1957 and running through 1960 had 3 different beds on their trucks, a basic step side, a wide bed (sweptline), and then a custom styled bed called a septside that waas a combination of the rear body sides from a station wagon molded onto a step side box. Pretty innovative and they looked pretty cool. You could even geet them with a 3 tone paint job.
I think the rear body sides from a 55 or 56 Crown Vic would look great morhped to a 56 truck
The 57 trim is popular, I've seen it added onto quite a few cars. I've even seen several late model trucks and vans with the 57 style trim painted on the body sides
I am trying to piece together a picture of the grille, including head lights and front bumper, rear quarters, including tail lights and tail gate to look like the trunk lid as well as the trim molding from a '56 crown vic with a '57 - 60's ford truck.
I am trying to figure this photo chop stuff out so far not so good but I will continue to try and get something put together.
Is there anyone that has or knows of someone that has done something similar to this. I like the idea posted by wmjoe but I think that if someone is going to do this, then it should include grille work as well. Styling cues for the interior (dash & trim) should also come from the car portion of the morph?
The painted on 56 trim really works well on a panel doesn't it? I had a set of Crown Vic trim that I toyed with trying to adapt to my 49. There was just no good way to make it work with the bodylines. In the end I donated the trim to my buddies 56 Ranch Wagon project.

It looks really good on that panel (IMHO). They did some airbrush work to make it stand out. I wish I had better pics of it. Mark walked in front of me when I was taking one of them. Grrrrrr!!!
I can't see it working that great on a truck though....well....not our older ones anyway. On a later one, with the smoother bed sides it might.
