Power steering woes
I have been working on my '72 F100 off an on for the past few years... My big project was yanking out the 400M somebody put in it and installing a 460 sourced from a '72 Lincoln. I also did disc brakes and power steering in the process.
My problem is that I CANNOT get power assist out of it. I had a pressure line made for it at a hydraulic shop and hooked it up and they pump makes lots of noise and there is no assist. The pump had some rust in it and came from a questionable source so I replaced it on Saturday. The new pump also is super noisy, gets very hot and can sometimes stall the engine. My only guess is that there is some sort of restriction in the steering box I put in. It was a used box and was sealed with blockoff plugs, but it did have some moisture/rust in it. Is there anything else I can try before replacing the box? Or a source for a new one? (I want some tight steering if possible!)
