Can Bad Shocks Be Noisy?

Have an '06 Expedition 4x4 and the sounds from driving over bumps, cracks, asphalt fillers, etc. really seem to fill the cab. I have wondered if it is just because the cab in these things are so quiet it makes little things more noticable OR are the Motorcraft shocks junk to begin with and not able to absorb a thing? The actual ride is not bad, but just noisy.

Thanks for any suggestions/tips.

Helps if I explain the noise! Bear with me here, but going over bumps sound "boomy"...if there is such a word.
