Auto Zone offers ceramic, semi-metallic and organic pads for my '99 Ranger. The ceramic are most expensive. Do they last longer? Are there stopping issues? I have always used semi-metallic on the Ranger but the Taurus will need pads soon.
I use their semi duralife or whatever they are called. Tried the ceramics and they were hard on the rotors as I recall as they are harder material. worked OK but like I said were hard on the rotors.
I swear by the ceramic pads. I use them on my kids '94 escort, my wifes '01 Taurus, and my 2000 Ranger. Stopping is not a problem, and one of the best things about them is NO brake dust on your rims. You can tell who uses the cheapo brand....their front rims are black with brake dust. Looks nasty. To "seat" them go crankin down the road and jam on the brakes. Do this a couple times and you should be set.

Semi-metallic Duralast.
All I'm gonna say is stay far away from the Valucraft (the bargain ones).
