C6 tailshaft

I just came by(free) a C6 with a tail shaft and housing that bolts onto a tranfer case for a 1979 F-150. i want to put it in a '55 F-100 2wd. Can I just change the housing?

No, The tailshaft is shorter on the 4x4 trans. You have to change the shaft & housing. Which requires tear down the trans.
