I just changed mine out on my 2000 Excursion. I also bolted on a coolant bypass filter setup from Dieselsite, added the billet thermo housing, 203 degree thermo and completely purged the system of the old green coolant, refilling with some Chevron Delo ELC.

Here's my method for removing the fan clutch nut:

Keeping the serpentine belt on, put a pipe wrench on the fan clutch nut and with the handle of the wrench sticking straight up, strike the handle quickly and firmly a few times with a hammer.

That should knock the nut loose lickity-split, smooth as butter.
