computer help...

I know, it's off topic. The hundreds of 40's-50's Ford truck photos aren't though. We had to do a recovery on the puter. It is supposed to save the files and stuff from the My documents folder. I can't find them. Where do I look. The folder is here somewhere, I know it because a couple of my user profile avatars are still in use. I can't find the files though. I want those pictures and such, some pretty hard to find photos inthere, and i really would like them back. I didn't delete them, so they have to be here somewhere. Any ideas?

If you're using Windows 98, which I use, you can search your files for graphic files by going to your C drive, right click and then click "search". In the widow that pops up enter "*.jpg" in the box under "All or part of the file name:" If you're using another operating system like Vista or whatever, you should still be able to do a search using "*.jpg" in the search program. I'm no computer expert so there might be a better way.

I know what a PIA for a computer to go down. My business computer took a dump last spring, was a brand new unit only about six months old. Fortunately, the computer place was able to save all my business files. I lost all my truck info but I had most of it on my web site server.

The "Search" function should be available from your "Start" button. You can enter .jpg or whatever but, the memu usually gives you the choice to select Pictures, Music etc.

Your E-Mail files are .pst incidently if you lost those.

You can "Google your problem (How to search for files? etc.) and finds tons of answers. Millions of folks have been through what you are going through.

Did the search, and nothing... So, I googled it, and found a program to download, that let me scan the deleted files from the computer. I just spent the last four and a half hours going through approx. 20,000 images that have been deleted (whether it was a tif, or whatever) including logos, and images from visited websites, ebay, fte, etc. Couldn't get all my photos back, since some were already written over, and or partially written over, but I managed to recover approx. 350 photos including most of the truck pictures I have saved over the last several months. Thanks for the help guys. btw, it was a program, Pandora Recovery, and I now have a new respect for the folks that have to sift through hard drive info on a regular basis. They are all getting burned to a back up disc this time.
