Maybe I am one in a million but who here is willing to drive their ugly truck because they love what a truck is about? My '78 300 4x4 has moss growing on it and when i got it had rats nests inside that took over 4 vaccumings to get out. The box is completely shot. But it is the true form of American trucks from the 70's and I think is more truck than those made these days. I can attach a load meant wayyy more than it was supposed to and just go. My '92 4 cyl danger ranger also held a 2600 lb load in the bed. Just love it.
I got the truck it needed a 9" rebuild and I should have rebuilt the motor since it sat for about 10 years. I ran it anyway and f'd the motor up and replaced it recently and runs great except for a oil pan gasket leak.
I inherited this truck from my grandpa and he would haul around 15K+ lbs with it had no complaints with the 300. Check my gallery for pictures that my friend took. He is a great photographer but none show the whole beast so I will try and get some pics taken.
PS. I got asked if a 300 would fit in a ranger. I currently own a ranger as my "choice" vehicle so I wasnt sure if it would. Would be sweet but I thought more work than it was worth.
Also sorry I am just kinda mad they gave the most reliable truck to Toyota...if you never use a truck for anything but driving on a street and everyone else uses other brands to pull/haul things does that make it more reliable? I show everyone the video clip FTE had on the front page a while back about Toyota's frame vs Ford's and the deflection under loads at certain points. I am an engineering student so things like that get me excited.

I don't have anything growing on my truck, but its definitely not in the best condition it could be in, I don't care though...Its my truck and its a man's truck.
Forq 2, im with ya on that man. i have a 84f150 thats got plenty of rust and a bad paint job with alot of scratches and chips. its a mans truck with a mans engine. nothin makes me more proud than telling someone i have a f150 with a strait 6. some people laff and say look at that piece of s#$t with a lil 6 in it. it doesnt bother me because i know what ever they are driving would get spanked in a tug of war against my 300. the best moment with my 4.9l was when it pulled out a huge stump that my 1998f150 with a V8 triton didnt budge. i love my old truck because i know its durable and i can pound on it all day. on the other hand my 98f150 i have to treat nice because its a little more fragile. i love this old truck n engine. PERIOD.
My 84 f150 4wd 300 I-6 has more than proven itself to me time and time again. I have taken it out 4 wheeling and beat the snot out of it, and drove it home sometimes towing a truck behind me that broke down. I have overloaded the suspension... gone way past the recommended tow rating, nope never let me down. The 96 f150 2wd 300 I-6 is quickly proving itself as a reliable little workhorse. The 84 has been such a good old truck to me she earned herself a frame off rebuild. Both have their share of battle scars.
My '88 F150 4x2 probably would have some stuff growing in the bed if not for the fact that there's probably some gasoline or diesel fuel or maybe herbicide spilled back there that keeps it from springing up. The cab has room for one person, since I keep the passenger seat and floorboards piled pretty full with all sorts of "necessary" things, like a half dozen ears of corn that I picked to see if they were ready to combine, empty styrofoam coffee cups and Coke bottles, jackets, gloves, hats, and who can tell what all else. The engine (a 300 Six that I absolutely can't say enough good stuff about - Ford really needs to take another look at putting this motor in their trucks!) needs some things done to make it run factory-perfect, but it runs well enough to be my daily driver, hauling whatever I need to haul, towing the occasional light load, and carrying me to my job in town. The body has its share of dents and scratches and rust, and I can't remember the last time I spent a quarter to wash the thing, but I don't really worry about things like that. And while I look around at other trucks, so far another one has'nt jumped out at me and caused me to wanna get rid of the old feller when I probably should have a long time ago. In the end I drive the same one home, and it gets me there everytime.
My truck is "pretty" but has it's share of dents, scratchs, and dings. It's a man's truck with a man's motor. My 300 is moody. Sometimes it runs like an ape on steroids, sometimes it runs like I do. And I don't. Sometimes my 300 makes weird noises I can't quite explain - then goes away. The gas milage sucks, but I suppose for a workhorse motor it does alright at 16mpg.
But it always runs, always gets the job done.
And I always get plenty of compliments on my pickup. She looks good and gets the job done.
My 76 is a little rusty with lots of dents and a big list of things that could be fixed, but it hauls anything without a problem. Everything about it is manly, from the inline six and granny-fourspeed to the manual brakes and busted power steering.
There's a lot of DINCs and yuppies around where I live. People stop and stare when I go to the Depot load 20 sheets of drywall and some 2-by into my big fullsize truck by myself. I like that, and so does my wife.
