I did a plug change on my 90 F150 4.9
I put autolite plugs in reconected everything
I started it up and took if for a spin and it is missing worse than it was before I changed the plugs.
I took it to a friends house he says that the metal thing inside plug wire on cylinder #5 wasnt connecting to the plug.
I got new plug wires cause the wires needed changed anyways.
I started it up and drove it with my friend inside he said to get some injector cleaner in it.
I went to advanced auto with my Bro and on the way It felt like I had NO power whatsoever. I had to have it mashed in 3rd going up a small hill. I got to a stoplight and notice TONS of whitish colored smoke behind me. IT feels like its missing like nuts with NO power. I took it back to my friend and he Took the temp gun to the Exaust.
Back CAT= 352
Front CAT=200something
Back header=497
Front Header=293
He said that he thinks the front Cat is clogged. I need to know that he isnt BSing me or if something is Screwed up. To me it sounds like the CAT is clogged.
hmm ok before you start replacing the cat/cats what is your temp reading on the dash? or should i say what is the motor running at temp wise? is the check engine light on?. what about replacing the cap and rotor too?
Definitely sounds like a clogged cat. You need to shoot the temp gun on both sides of 1 cat and look at the difference between the two numbers. If it is hotter at the rear than it is on the front by more than 10 or 15% then you've got a clogged cat.
I took the flanges off.....unbuckled the pipes. Talk about a PITA those bolt were something! lol. It runs ALot better but its still missing a tad from somewhere so I think the truck might be getting sold. I Know the CAT is clogged though.
I really don't want to buy an new CAT they are EXPENSIVE!!!!!!
SOOO.......are there anyway to UNclog the CAT. I know My Step-dad used CLR and Drain-o to unclog the CAT in the Corvette. Thanks for the REALLY fast reply I needed it.
does a cat make "tons of whitish colored smoke"? Ive always thought that it usually means burning coolant?
Thats what I thought the signs of a blown head gasket or something along those lines. Have you checked your oil? See if you have any water in there. I could be up in the night. And cats dont cost that much. Just go to summit and you can by a uni one for about 60-100$ that will replace the front and rear cat. Thats what i have to do next month along with long tubes.
