I am needing to replace the flexible brake line on my truck. Problem is when I try to remove the fitting it rounds off. It is a 7/16" size. I made my self a line wrench with the box end of a 7/16". I still doesn't it want to cooperate.
Has anybody got any ideas how to get the fitting off, short of a sawzall.
If you want to try to save it, clamp vise grips on the steel line to hold it, then loosen the rubber line up on the other end so you can turn the whole rubber line, and the steel nut under the vise grips does not have to move. To do this, you need to get the clip loose from the frame bracket, and drop the rubber line out of the bracket, since it has flats on it to keep it from turning. Once you free the rubber line up, then you can turn it instead of the steel line.
What has happened is the nut of the steel line has rusted to the line. There is really no way to get it loose, though squeezing it with the vise grips sometimes will flex it out of round enough to break it loose. But if you do not want to replace the steel line, do not try to turn the nut, just hold it in place.
If you end up twisting it off anyway, you can go to the store and get a piece of universal line to replace it.
