I would agree...the Yankmees...in order to put a positive spin on it...offered him enough to make themselves look good...hoping to make Joe look bad if he rejected the offer. Good for Joe...he was perhaps the perfect manager for that team. Joe Torre was nothing but a class act...proved it by turning down the offer and not trashing the Steinbrenners or the organization.
Now that said...as a life long fan of the Boston Red Saawx...I'm elated they let him go!!!
I think after all the years and championships he has won, they couldn't just fire him. That is why the lowball contract, so they can part ways on their own terms.
If Francona wasn't such a good manager I would say the sox should go after Joe..
Maybe he would be interested in a coaching or front office position with the Red Sox? Wouldn't that snap Steinbrenners jaw amongst other things..
im a MEts fan and i despise the yankees and their front office. that being said i think Joe was perhaps the best thing about the team he was a true gentleman and a class act, more than could be said for the rest of the organization. I think after all he did for the team they gave him a bum deal and they basically spat in his face. I think even in the face of aversity he was gracious and a gentleman and i think that he did the right thing. Steinbrenner , on the other hand has proven once again that he is one of the biggest pieces of garbage on the face of the earth and i sincerely hope that the yankees never win another world series or pennant while any of the steinbrenner losers are running the team
I sincerely wish Joe well with whatever he decides to do in the future He will be an asset to any ball club he goes to
joe farrell red sox pitching coach is interviewing for the yankees job---go figure.
as for JOE a man with class in a classless organization. only in new york would something like this happen.
the media asked him in the interview if he would come back and throw out the first pitch in the new yankee stadium, and he said i dont know. what the hell does that tell you????
