IT will be a mess!
You could loosen the bolts on the tranny pan, but no matter what you do, there will be a mess.
Then take the driveshafts off and take off one side of the shift linkage, then unbolt it from the frame and transmssion adapter and it should come right off.
Be prepaired....The NP203 weighs right around 300lbs
it takes about 7 quarts of non detergant 30w motor oil.
It shouldn't be to bad to change the chain, if you have some good instructions. The probelm will be getting it off and on safely. I'd suggest a transmission jack!
Are you sure? That just doesn't make sense to me. The trans and tcase don't share fluid. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't want any suprises when I drop my 205 this winter.
Your right. they do not share fluid, but the tail shaft goes from the transmission into the t case. It is open in there, and the fluid flows in the adapter.
I know I'm not explaining this to well, but transmission fluid came out when I first took off my 203. Not ALL of it, just what was at that level. Everything in the pan was fine, so only a few quarts came out, but some will come out.
Could just crack the seal at the 203 and the adapter and just catch what comes out. This wouldn't be to bad if your expecting it..... I wasn't so there was a mess.....
i ended up changing out the 203 for a 24 best thing i could of done .you" also should get a gasket and seal kit while your at it. i wasted a lot of money on nothing ,never again dump the 203
