Extended Warranty
Just interested in getting opinions of the ethics of selling extended warranties to customers for markups well in excess of the published amounts under the warranty section of ford.com. I recently bought a new 2008 Harley Davidson 4wWD F250 Diesel without the extended warranty and after reading on the forum about why it would be a good idea to have one I called my salesman to find out the cost. The finance lady(?) told me she would sell it to me $100.00 over cost for $2795.00 -- 6 years/75000 mi./ $100.00 ded./. PremiumCare. I purchased it. For some reason that night I dreamed about buying the warranty and woke up with a start feeling I made a mistake -- stayed awake for a while and decided to research it the next day. The next day I found the website under fordwarrantys.com and found that I had Indeed been outright lied to. I called the dealership and talked to the other finance person and she admitted that the policy had been marked up A LOT.. To make a long story short I got a 7 yr/ 75000 mi./0 ded./PremiumCare warranty for $2310.00 --a year longer with no deductible. The dealership is refunding the $485.00. Never will I recommend this dealer
Yep, many dealers will try to screw you over the ESP. I have a friend that just bought a new Escape and the dealer told her that if she didn't purchase the ESP at the time of sale he would have to add a "surcharge". When she still said "no" the guy walked off all mad.
My dealer offered the ESP to me for the same price that was listed on Ford's website. I, so far, have declined.
