First off all I can say is I don't know how I got lucky enuf to have the wife I have! LOL Brought home a 1996 350 4x4 5 speed dump truck thursday night, 70k on the odo.
Previous owner with help pulled the engine to replace the oil pan, lets just say the mechanical ability is questionable. While out they replaced the starter and for some reason the slave and cyl assy. After getting it back together the pressure plate won't release. Hense the reason it went up for sale and I got it.
Buddy and I bled out the system (full of air) last night and got it to partially release. Still doesn't seem to be pushing out the whole way. I stopped by and got the old slave this afternoon and the push rod is different. Going to try changing the new rod with the old one and see what happens. Anything I might be missing?
You usually have to disconnect the slave and tube from the master cylinder and hand bleed the slave, then reattach it to the master cylinder and finish bleeding. They can be a pain. If you get the system bleed and it still does not release, they may have misaligned the throwout bearing, bent the fork, or installed the pressure plate wrong.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
i had this problem with 3 different slave cylinders. it turned out to be the little plastic bearing that is where the clutch lever connects to the clutch master cylinder rod.
Ok, now I'm stumped. I put the origonal slave back on and bled it out with the instructions from carolina clutch. Didn't help much, replaced the plastic bushing on the clutch rod and walla it worked. But I disengaged the PTO and it won't shift again. Engage the PTO and it won't shift. Don't know what caused it to work for a few mins.....
Other intersting item is the clutch master cyl can be rotated around, Don't really think it should...my other truck is tight. Could it be a bad master cyl?
The master cylinder body is a plastic part, the plate that gets bolted to the firewall studs is a separate sheetmetal part. Mine will rotate if the nuts are loose, when tight though it has never moved.
did you check to make sure that the plastic bushing stayed in place? mine fell out after pushing the clutch in about 5 times. so i zip tied everything together.
ON EDIT: if your clutch master moves up and down when you push in the clutch, then you may have a crack in the firewall, which doesn't allow the clutch master rod to go in all the way. take the clutch master off and see if you see any cracks. ford makes a repair kit for this.
