This morning I sat down at the computor and hit Firefox. It came up and I clicked on Bookmarks and It was EMPTY. Everything I have bookmarked in the last year about trucks and how-too's is gone. All the JAG IRS and IFS is gone. Body repair, Wiring diagrams, everything is gone. Anyone have any ideas how to get it back? PLEASE HELP. Thanks

Rusty,
Do you have Internet Explorer as well? if so the bookmarks might still be saved there. I'm not to familiar with Firefox and only use it on occasion when I join in the chat sessions here. I'll fiddle around with it when I get home this evening and see what I can figure out
I'm dumping Firef-up as of today. When I'm downloading my emails and I get a pop-up that says Firef-up is installing updates, etc, it's time to put a halt to them.
This happens all the time, not just when I'm reading emails.
Try a cold reboot, ie don't shutdown gracefully which will save your perceived changes (ie missing bookmarks) and reboot. Just kill the power and relog in.
Are the files gone or just that firefox can't find them?
Can you do a "restore" from the windows systems menu to return the computer to a configuration it was in before the problem developed?
You can set Firefox to only update manually. You can also set it to ask you if you want to update.
Tools/Options/Advanced/Update
Rusty: when you get the bookmarks back, archive them by downloading and installing the Foxmarks add-on. I use that to keep my bookmarks current between the many computers I use.
You really should turn off the "automatic updates" on all programs, even windows, because not all undates are good things, they might conflict with something else on your computer. Each program is very self centered, it usually doesn't concern itself with or look at what else you are running or what conflicts it might cause. I do any updates manually when I have time to see exactly what the "update" is going to "fix" and decide if that fix really is important to me. Then I set a restore point first so I can always go back and undo something that messes up.
Windows (not sure about Mac), click on start in the lower left. Then you should see in the second column:
help and support
search
run
click on search. then click on all files and folders. Type in favorites. It should show the folder in the box to the right.
Or click on My Computer. then local disk (C: ) My documents and settings, then owner (or something similar), and look for a Favorites folder. It'll be in a star shape to the left of it
First place to look is the Recycle Bin. If not there, make a new bookmarks file, under a different name, and see where it is stored, and what the file extension is. Then do a Windows Explorer search for all files with that extension.
havi. It doesn't show bookmarks for Firefox just a star for Windows
ALBUQ F-1 Not in the recycle bin. Firefox doesn't show extensions or I just can't find it.(that could be it)
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
You will see a folder in the Profiles folder with a name like 5rk21c0h, open it and there should be a file called bookmarks.bak (the backup of) the file named bookmarks. You can double click on the bookmarks file and it should open and show you the contents.
You might have to go to tools, folder options , view and mark the option to show hidden folders and files other wise you will not see the application data folder and others.
You should also click on view, the select details for the way the files are displayed this way you will see the size and date the file was last saved info.
Hope this helps

Reason: had another thought
Also see if you're running Firefox under a different profile. If Firefox crashes, sometimes it'll insist that your default profile is still in use and make you use a new one. I don't remember how to check ... perhaps someone else can explain that step.
