[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-12-03 AT 07:10 PM (EST)]Eric, Marty has a stock '82 F100 with the single barrel carb... I know you haven't followed Marty's predicament, he had trouble with a carb replacement.
Marty, is it pinging when it bogs? That would be indicative of a timing problem. I know you already timed it, just making sure that it's not drifting. Check your engine vacuum, to make sure you're not losing vacuum that could be affecting the timing advance. Check your plug's gap again. Make sure your adjustment screws are set properly (fuel/air, fast idle, curb idle). Also, check that your choke doesn't try to shut as you give it gas. Had a problem on a different style carb (butterfly was arranged with the direction of travel, so any forward movement would cause the choke to go shut and stall the car). I know your choke arrangement is sideways vs. forward, but it's just a thought. Lastly, could you have a restriction in your intake or exhaust?
Look at it this way, you got the truck running and it drives! Now you get to tweak it.
Sounds like the mixture is off. Rich is my guess. Try turning the adjustment screw a 1/4 of a turn clockwise and see how the truck behaves. It may take more adjustment, be patient - only try 1/4 turns. Catch us up to date Marty. What have you been doing to your truck lately?
ok i will try the mixture screw but i drove it today to new jersey and it was fine ive been driving it all around and its ok just the bogging is the only problem....once it gets past the bog it gets up pretty good for an 82...except 4th gear it just sux if i hit the gas but as i back off it gets a little better...once i get past this i plan to get a flomaster exhaust to make it sound a little better... once again thanks for all your help...
oh and the other question is how important is the choke heat tube? mine broke and i have a new one but have to drill a new hole and all.. i was just wondering how imprtant it was??

I think everyone missed TWO OBVIOUS problem. When he stabs the gas it BOGS, and when he backs off it gets better. If that don't smell like a bad or mal adjusted Accelerator pump OR a loose carb body, I haven't been working on Carter YF/YFA's since 1966.
Choke heat tube is important to release the choke in a reasonable time. If it's really cold out the choke won't fully release as it stays cold unless the tube is in place. Get the tube and install it. And check your pump shot (look down thru throat and with engine off pump accelerator. should be a healthy shot of gas right off idle. If not adjust linkage until it does.)
Take the carb off and flip it over. Back out the screws holding the base, douse the threads with lock-tite, and screw back in tightly. Re-install carb.
my 1970 has the same problem. I put an accelerator pump in mine and it seems to be working good. My carburator has never had the bottom piece off it doesnt look like so could that still be my problem?
ANOTHER QUESTION.. THERE IS A RUBBER HOSE BLOCKED OFF COMING OUT OF THE TOP PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CARB.. WHAT WOULD THAT GO TO SO I CAN RE HOOK UP WHAT EVER IT GOES TO...
Hey Marty,
I believe you are talking about a hose that connects to a metal line that connects to the bottom of the exhuast manifold. I think it is used to push hot air up into the choke housing for faster warm ups. On my truck the hose was orange and ran less than a foot before connecting into a metal tube.
