spare tire will likely be about 70-100lbs with the rim, tailgates 50lbs(i think)

rip out the rear seat, take out one battery, take all the carpeting out, take out front passenger seat, remove headliner, remove rear window and put polly in place, remove stereo, speakers, door windows, door panels, motors for the power windows

i don't think you're gonna notice 400 lbs missing with these trucks. I've run my truck on the street with 3 friends in it (way more than 400 lbs.) and it seems the same to me. Now if we were talking 1000 lbs. now i think you might see a difference there. just my .02

i have thought about this too, as my truck is close to 8000 lbs. after i find the ideal setup , i am going to buy a regular cab and chop it down. not sure if i will stay 4x4 or go 2wd for weight savings, but i will build me a diesel race truck, i may even try to shoehorn a powerstroke into a half ton, or maybe even an old fox body mustang.

that would be nice. turn a 5.0 into a badarse 6.0 !

Joceran: Not sure if you're going racing in a specific type of sanctioned event, or just want the fastest stoplight demon. If the former, you need to start with a rule book from the sanctioning body, and figure out what class you'll be competing in. Once you have that, you can determine what "legal" forms of weight reduction you can undertake.

A couple of easy ones that most stock classes even allow is to run on the minimum fuel quantity in the tank that the truck will perform well on, and remove things like spare tire and jack/lug wrench (a lot of times you can do this in prep. right at the race, then put the tire back on before the drive home), minimum coolant and empty the windshield washer bottle too, take off the helper springs, tow hooks, etc.. A lot of times it's a pound here and there all over the place.

You already mentioned wheels/tires and you can look for lightweight wheels while you're shopping. There are tricks that some folks use and get away with, like removing interior insulation and putting the carpet and whatnot back in place so it's not obvious.

Tell us more about what your plans are, I've done a bit of the club level car racing myself...

Since I've been jogging and lost 15lbs, my girlfriend seems to think I perform better.
I don't know if the 06's still have em, but I trashed the fold out tray that was under the rear seats on my 04. That was about 50lbs of steel. I also trashed my skidplates(FX4) since my trucks undercarriage is probably 3 feet from the ground. And the muffler and exhaust sytem from the cat back went into the trash. That was probably another 50lbs of stainless steel. Should of recycled that.
That was the only complete useless weight on my truck.
Besides the ex-girlfriend.
That was another 95lbs of misery.

If it were me, and I can afford it, I'd buy that '05 and build the sleeper family grocery getter/everyday truck (in looks) and strip the heck out of it and do the head studs, maybe some propane and h2o hidden w/hidden switches, good set o tuning, and make it into a rocket...

Don't compromise your real family truck for this need for speed.

Just my $.02 worth...

Jocaren, taking off my 300 lbs cap, the spare, the front bumper guard and the back seat made a whopping .14 better in the 1/4 mile one night at the track. It ain't worth it. You gotta loose ALOT before a real difference is noticed.

i agree. as big as our trucks are, you need to be trying to lose about 800-1000 lbs or dont even bother.
