So...I spent the ~$5300 and put a new 390 in the 1967 F-250 4x4 in august...and the engine's been great...but...since the replacement, I am having a couple of clutch (pedal?) noises. First off, it has a np435/np205 mated tranny package from a 77 or 78 in it.....when driving around, engaged in gear, I hear a sotra ringing sound...if I barely touch the clutch pedal, it stops. But...and also....when I push the clutch down, I hear a slight "whirring" sound from the vicinity of the clutch/throwout bearing.
I think that the first noise is indicative af a need for bushing in the pedal assembly. Am I correct? How hard are they ro replace? I bought a kit of little black plastic top hat looking bushings from NPD...is there one type that is better than another?
Second sound....Throwout bearing? They (the shop) said they "tightened up" the clutch linkages and such when replacing the engine....or could the sound be a result of the weird engine/trannies/truck assortment that has been put together?
Imo, it sounds like the throwout bearing making both sounds. I had a new throwout bearing go on the first day after putting in a new engine and chutch.
How much free travel does your clutch pedal have? Could be no free play in the pedal keeping enough pressure on the TO bearing to keep it spinning all the time....
Maybe they "tightened it up" a little too much? lol
I do know that the pedal has a wicked squeek when using it....which made me think of the bushings....but, it soulds like i should take it back in and ask them to check/adjust the clutch a bit.
