Need Help with install

Well I got the boxing plates installed for my Tci mustang II kit and they turned out very nice. The problem came when I put the crossmember in. I have the truck at 3 degree rake and the frame level from side to side but when the cross member is sitting up against the frame it is not level (as TCI suggests it should be. In order for it to be level there is about 1/4" gap between the crossmember and the frame. I can trim the front frame mount area of the cross member and make it sit level but I thought I should see what you guys think. Anyone else have to alter their crossmember in order for it to sit level.

Thanks, Darren

Sounds like a twist in the frame somewhere.

When I put the rear cross member from tci in my frame I had the frame level side to side and front to back. The angle was built into the cross for the jag. Is it possible they built it into the front cross that you ordered as well. Just a thought.

I had the same issue with my Heidts crossmember. I don't think they are set up for a frame with much rake at all. I tacked mine in tight to the bottom of the frame and installed the A-arms, spindles, hubs, wheels and tires and I couldn't get the caster setup correctly. It was so far off that you could see the top of the springs were forward of the bottoms. I had to cut them off and trim the crossmember& hats to allow for the rake of my frame at ride height.
You might call TCI to get their take on your situation. Let us know how you make out.

Well here is an update. I called TCI and told them what I had with it not sitting level and they told me to put a piece of metal on the back crossmember area to account for the 1/4" that it was away from the frame. Well I liked my idea better so I notched a 1/4" of an inch out of the front of the crossmember where it contacts the frame. It worked like a champ, the crossmember hits the frame in both spots and is level as can be. I checked for level in the middle of the cross member and also at each of the A-arm mounts and all were level. So currently I have the crossmember tacked in and the Spring purches tacked on. I bolted up the upper and lower control arms without the springs in. I plan placing the cab and doghouse in place to verify that the wheels will be centered in the wheelwell and also try to verify the caster and camber adjustment range.

Darren,
Great to here you got your problem solved. Oh by the way, I like your solution better than TCI's. Did you trim the back of the top hats to keep the anti-dive angle as well? They should remain in the same relationship to the crossmember as shipped.
